Enzymic modulator to reduce lactic acid accumulation and delay muscle fatigue

Dichloro-acetic acid 120 ug/mL

Sodium gluconate 250 mg/mL

LACTANASE contains dichloroacetic acid, which is an activator of the enzyme pyruvate dehydrogenase1-3. This enzyme plays a central role in the process of lactic acid production during hard work4.

Supplementation with dichloroacetic acid (DCA) results in activation of the enzyme pyruvate dehydrogenase, leading to a reduction in the rate of lactic acid production1-3 and accumulation in muscles. Elevated plasma lactate levels result in a reduction in pH which contributes to muscle fatigue5 and decreased muscle performance.

Supplementation with DCA has been shown to reduce lactic acid accumulation during exercise6, and produce a significant delay in muscle fatigue5. The pathogenesis of Exertional Rhabdomyolysis (“Tying Up”) in horses is related to lactic acidosis during exercise, and associated low muscle pH7.

Sodium bicarbonate and dimethylglycine (DMG), which may help to reduce lactic acid accumulation during exercise, have been used to assist in the prevention of Tying Up in horses7,8. Similarly, DCA (LACTANASE) results in a reduction in the rate of lactate accumulation and a delay in the onset of muscle fatigue.

To help reduce the incidence of Tying Up by reducing the build-up of lactic acid in muscle cells.

Horses:

  • Give 20 – 40 mL by intravenous (IV) injection
  • Dilute product in 1 Litre saline, or administer via catheter.
  • Administer once weekly for 4 weeks then discontinue for 4 weeks before repeating the course.

Camels:

  • 5 mL for small camels: higayg, ligaya & iddah
  • 10-15 mL for larger camels: thanayah, howl & gilesa
  • Administer by intravenous (IV) infusion diluted in 1 Litre saline, or administer via catheter.

Users must adhere to local and racing regulations.

WARNINGS: Take care to avoid leakage from the vein. LACTANASE is highly irritant if given outside the vein. Avoid accidental contact with mucous membranes or eyes (avoid accidental spillage or spray). Always consult label and leaflet for restraints, contraindications, precautions and side effects.
